Strandberg Boden Essential 6 Tremolo Whale Blue is a headless six-string electric guitar with an Arc TILT tremolo bridge, a solid meranti body and a one-piece roasted maple neck with the EndurNeck profile. It weighs around 2.3 kg, uses a classic 25.5" scale and carries two .strandberg* humbuckers in an H-H layout. It is the most direct route to Strandberg ergonomics for a player who uses the whammy bar and still expects the guitar to stay in tune.

A whammy bar that keeps you in tune

Budget tremolos show their weaknesses quickly: after a deep dive the strings come back out of tune, and when you bend one string the bridge moves and pulls the others. Arc TILT (Twin Incline Lever Technology) uses an offset pivot point, a new block and baseplate and a new arm attachment. According to the manufacturer this gives tuning stability, a wider range, flutter capability and very smooth arm action.

Long sessions without fatigue

Without a headstock the centre of gravity moves closer to your body, so the guitar hangs level on the strap. The patented EndurNeck profile guides the hand into a natural position and takes strain off the wrist. In the Essential series the neck is made from a single piece of roasted maple instead of the multi-laminate build of the pricier models, which lowers the cost without losing the ergonomics of the profile. The solid meranti body is light and strong, with a focused tone that is strong in the midrange.

The sound comes from two passive .strandberg* humbuckers: a Hum Hot at the bridge and a Hum Vintage at the neck. The 5-way selector combines them with coil splitting: from the full bridge humbucker for heavy riffs, through single-coil combinations for clean parts, to a warm neck humbucker for leads. The Whale Blue Metallic Satin finish is a deep metallic blue in an acrylic satin coat. Under stage lighting the metallic pigment shifts shade, while the black hardware and dark rosewood fretboard complete a coherent look. The satin surface hides fingerprints far better than high gloss.
