Peluso TR 14 is an active ribbon microphone with a tube amplifier stage — the same long-ribbon design as the passive R 14, but with an added CK5784/6J1P tube that introduces a harmonic complexity not available in the passive version.
A Tube Where There's Usually Just a Ribbon
Unlike typical active ribbon microphones built around transistors, the TR 14 uses a sub-miniature glass tube that adds an extra layer of tube harmonics to the ribbon's natural warmth — a result closer to vintage tube ribbon designs than modern active FET models.
A Dedicated Power Supply Instead of Phantom Power
The TR 14 does not use standard 48V phantom power — it requires a dedicated power supply (115V or 230V AC) to provide the voltages needed to run the tube, worth factoring into your studio's cabling plan.
The sub-miniature glass tube runs in a much smaller housing than the tubes typically used in Peluso's large-diaphragm microphones, preserving the slim, ribbon-style body geometry.
