Peluso R 14 is a passive ribbon microphone in the classic long-ribbon style of vintage RCA microphones — no electronics, no power required, delivering the natural, warm tone typical of the best ribbons from the mid-20th century.
Warmth Without Electronics to Power
A thin, corrugated aluminum ribbon suspended between two neodymium magnets generates signal purely through electrodynamic induction, with no transistors or tubes in the path — the approach closest to original ribbon designs, prized for a smooth top end and an absence of artificial brightness.
A Figure-8 Pattern for Natural Off-Axis Rejection
A bidirectional (figure-8) pattern with a long-geometry ribbon positioned slightly forward of the magnet's center produces a gentle low-end roll-off on the rear side — a useful effect for managing proximity effect on vocals or acoustic guitar.
With no active electronics at all, there's no battery to replace or power circuit to service — the only mechanical element requiring care is the ribbon itself.
