Peluso 22 251 is a large-diaphragm tube microphone modeled on the iconic Telefunken ELA M 251, sharing its capsule and tube concept with the P-12 but built on a different circuit topology that delivers noticeably higher gain.
Same Capsule Family, Different Character Than the P-12
A dual-diaphragm 34mm capsule with gold-coated Mylar and a 6072A tube are shared between both models, but the 22 251 delivers roughly 7dB more gain thanks to a different circuit design — translating into a quieter noise floor and a stronger signal on quiet sources.
A Custom T/14 Transformer for the Classic Tone
A proprietary, hand-wound output transformer in a T/14 configuration builds the smooth, slightly darker tone associated with the original ELA M 251, favored on female vocals and acoustic instruments that need a natural, unforced top end.
The hand-wound T/14 transformer is a fully in-house Peluso component rather than an off-the-shelf part sourced externally — one reason the model's character is difficult to copy.
