Keybed, FSR pads and expression – what the 61 MK4 adds over smaller models

Five octaves of full-size keys in a waterfall profile is sufficient for two-handed playing without constant transposition. Semi-weighted action provides appropriate resistance for fast lead lines and chords without fatiguing during long sessions. The 16 pads use Novation's proprietary FSR (Force Sensing Resistor) technology, responding to both strike velocity and continuous pressure after the initial contact – polyphonic aftertouch on pads is uncommon in controllers at this price point. Scale mode keeps notes in key in real time, Chord Map and Fixed Chord allow complex chords from a single finger, and the arpeggiator with multiple modes rounds out the live performance toolkit. The OLED display shows the active preset, parameter values and detected chord names in real time.

DAW integration and mixer control – 9 faders and 8 encoders in practice

Dedicated DAW presets for Ableton Live, Logic, Cubase, FL Studio, Reason, Bitwig, and Ardour map faders, encoders, and transport buttons without manual configuration. Nine faders cover 8 mixer channels plus master; buttons under the faders handle mute/solo or track ARM for recording depending on the DAW. Eight endless encoders control plugin parameters, Ableton Rack macros, sends, and other selected parameters via Page navigation. Workflow buttons (Capture MIDI, Undo, Quantize, Metronome) are directly accessible from the panel without navigating computer menus. The Launchkey 61 MK4 White works with Mac, PC, and iOS without drivers.
