Lynx DB-ADAT is an expansion card that adds ADAT and S/PDIF ports to an Aurora (n) converter. It mounts onto the LM-DIG module and does not work on its own — worth knowing before you order.
The Aurora as a two-way format converter
With the card fitted, the Aurora stops being only an A/D and D/A converter: it translates ADAT to AES/EBU and to analogue, then back to ADAT. In a studio running an older optical interface, a digital console and an analogue chain, one device replaces two separate format converters.
Optical without the jitter you expect from it
Optical signals often carry high jitter and are usually the weakest link in a digital chain. The Aurora uses SynchroLock 2 with jitter reduction on the order of 300,000:1, so the clock stays stable even when the ADAT source is mediocre. Channel count scales with sample rate: 16 at 44.1 and 48 kHz, 8 at 88.2 and 96 kHz, 4 at 176.4 and 192 kHz.
KEY FEATURES
- Adds ADAT and S/PDIF ports to an Aurora (n) converter
- Four optical connectors: two inputs and two outputs
- Lets the Aurora work as a bidirectional format converter
- SynchroLock 2 jitter reduction on the order of 300,000:1
- Requires an installed LM-DIG module
