HUM Audio LAAL

The HUM Audio LAAL is an analog limiter with a minimum delay of 0.2 ms, adjustable stereo panorama and a Release Time function from 2 to 100 ms.

The device operates on a fully analog delay line of 0.2 ms, which allows it to react to even the fastest peaks with minimal side effects and without compromising sound quality.

The LAAL also has a unique dynamic transient function, which is responsible for regenerating transient processes in proportion to the degree of limiting applied.

The device is also equipped with an adjustable stereo width scheme, which is designed to increase the perceived spaciousness in the mix without compromising the low-frequency energy in the center of the stereo image, while maintaining mono compatibility.

No compromises were made in the design and execution: HUM carefully selected every component of the audio chain and even developed their own where they felt it was necessary.

The unit is precisely calibrated to within 0.1 dB between left and right channels, and the thermally compensated detection circuitry ensures stable and repeatable results in all studio conditions.

Every component in the limiter’s audio path has been carefully selected, and the power supply has been designed by HUM Audio Devices specifically for the LAAL.

Large input and output level controls for each channel provide a gain range of -10 to +12 dB in 2 dB steps, while the trim control offers an additional, more precise setting of -1 to +1.2 dB in 0.2 dB steps.

Recovery times of 2, 3, 10, 30, 50 and 100 ms are available, and all of these controls are represented on the front panel by step-adjustable rotary knobs.

Large input signal and gain attenuation meters are provided for each channel, and a selection of switches in the centre of the unit provide access to functions such as peak hold, dynamic transient processing and stereo width processing.

The device is equipped with a limiter bypass as well as a rigid bypass, and in addition to stereo operation, the detection circuits for each channel can be separated to use the LAAL as two independent mono limiters.
