GENELEC 7040APM is an active studio subwoofer featuring a 6.5-inch driver, a built-in Class D amplifier with 50 watts of power, and a frequency range of 30 – 85 Hz.

The compact active subwoofer Genelec 7040A black is designed for use with two-channel audio systems based on the Genelec 8010 or Genelec 8020A active monitors.

The subwoofer is equipped with a shielded low-frequency driver measuring 6.5” (165 mm), housed in a patented Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE) cabinet with a bass reflex port. The LSE is a spirally formed metal sheet placed between two panels of MDF. The side vent acts as a bass reflex port, which operates much more efficiently than traditional designs due to its optimal geometry for sound wave passage. Additionally, this cabinet has high rigidity and is practically free from its own resonances. This solution, combined with precise matching of the LF driver and the cabinet, allows this relatively small device to produce low frequencies starting at 30 Hz (at -6 dB level). The built-in amplifier power for this model is 50 watts, with protection against overload, short-circuiting, or overheating of the electronic circuit.

The subwoofer Genelec 7040A features balanced XLR inputs and outputs for two channels of the surround sound system. There are also special switches to control the cutoff slope of the input filter and to change the absolute phase of the signal.

Genelec 7040A is designed for use with Genelec speakers, for which the matching will be most optimal. Since the subwoofer is placed between the surround sound processor and the active satellites, it is equipped with the necessary balanced through outputs. The signal sent to them is unfiltered (fully bandwidth), so the corresponding circuits must be activated in the satellites themselves. This also allows for optimal adjustment of the characteristics of each channel depending on the specifics of the particular system configuration.
