Fostex T50RPmk4g is a semi-open gaming headphone built on the identical hardware platform as the T50RPmk4 — fourth-generation RP planar driver in a symmetrical housing with sockets on both sides. The only difference from the T50RPmk4 is the bundled cable and market positioning: the T50RPmk4g ships with a 3.5 mm TRRS-to-TRS cable (combo jack on one end, standard stereo TRS on the other) instead of the 4-pole-to-3-pole cable included with the studio variant. The hardware — housing, driver, ear pads — is the same unit.
Fourth-generation RP driver and gaming-specific performance characteristics
RP planar technology drives the full diaphragm surface uniformly, minimizing phase distortion and producing fast transient response. In competitive multiplayer environments, footsteps, gunshots, and environmental audio cues are all short-duration transients. The faster and more accurate the driver's impulse response, the more precisely the headphone renders direction and distance of sound sources. The fourth-generation driver's redesigned printed coil, increased magnet count, and optimized flux distribution produce faster attack and decay than the third generation, at improved sensitivity of 97 dB/mW and lowered impedance of 28 Ω — meaning the T50RPmk4g drives directly from a console, laptop, or controller without an external amplifier. The symmetrical housing with identical internal structures on both sides eliminates the acoustic L/R asymmetry common in headphones with single-sided cable routing, which directly benefits stereo imaging accuracy.T50RPmk4g vs T50RPmk4 — what the cable difference actually means
The two models are physically identical. The cable change from 4-pole-to-3-pole (studio variant) to TRRS-to-TRS (gaming variant) adapts the headphone to the standard combo 3.5 mm jack found on consoles, laptops, and controllers. It does not affect acoustic performance or internal wiring — the headphones support balanced connections via the 4-pole earcup socket, and the optional ET-RP4.4BL 2.0 balanced cable (4.4 mm Pentaconn) is compatible with both variants. Memory foam circumaural ear pads provide consistent acoustic seal and comfort over extended sessions.KEY FEATURES
