Embodme Norand Mono MK2 is a desktop analogue monosynth with two oscillators offering through-zero frequency modulation, a three-pole filter and a sequencer running 1024 PPQN automation. The front panel is built from backlit soft-touch pads with a long continuous strip above them, all in an aluminium chassis.
Expression from the pads, not from a separate controller
In a typical step sequencer a note has pitch, length and accent, and that is the end of it. The MK2 pads read movement on three axes — X, Y and pressure — and each of them can be routed to any parameter in the voice. Instead of programming an envelope for every step, you play across the pad and the same gesture is captured as automation. The continuous strip above the pads handles pattern morphing and real-time sequence modulation.
An analogue path with overdrive instead of a saturation plugin
The signal runs through a discrete analogue path ending in a soft overdrive circuit. Set gently it adds density to a bass line; wound up it turns the same line into a dirty, saturated tone — without routing out to an external preamp and without a plugin in the chain. Two oscillators with TZFM and hard sync, plus a variable-character filter, cover everything from clean beds to openly distorted material.
