Austrian Audio OD5 — an active dynamic instrument microphone with a Swivel Joint mechanism allowing 220° rotation of the mic basket, built for drums, guitar amplifiers, and wind instruments.

The OD5 brings the active dynamic circuit known from the vocal OD505 into an instrument mic format. The capsule delivers 6.7 mV/Pa sensitivity — approaching condenser-level output — with a 20 Hz–18 kHz frequency range and a maximum SPL of 151 dB (over 160 dB SPL with the -10 dB pad engaged). Open Acoustics technology, with the capsule and mic basket independently suspended, gives a precise, linear cardioid pattern that limits how much the housing itself colors the captured signal.

Angle adjustment without touching the stand

A common problem when miking a drum kit or guitar combo in a tight space: a small angle correction usually means loosening and re-tightening the entire stand clamp, easily knocking a position you'd already dialed in. The Swivel Joint mechanism on the OD5 suspends the mic basket itself in a movable joint with 220° of range, letting you fine-tune the angle with one hand without touching the stand — a real convenience when mics are packed tightly around cymbals or toms.

A CAB filter instead of one universal setting

Different instrument sources call for different approaches to the low end: a guitar amp benefits from cutting unnecessary low frequencies, while a kick or bass wants a gentler, more general-purpose high-pass. The OD5 addresses this with a two-position CAB (Cut and Boost) filter offering 80 Hz and 120 Hz settings (2nd order), letting the response be matched to the specific source without reaching for EQ on the console, while the -10 dB pad guards the signal against overload on very loud sources like a kick drum or an overdriven combo.
