Austrian Audio CC8

The CC8 uses the newly developed OCC7 capsule, inspired by the legendary AKG CK1 design, with a 3-micron gold-coated PEN diaphragm. Transformerless electronics give a linear frequency response across 20 Hz–20 kHz, a maximum SPL of 146 dB (156 dB with the -20 dB pad), and a low 16 dB(A) self-noise. Every unit is factory-measured and tuned in an anechoic chamber to a ±0.5 dB tolerance at 1 kHz, meaning a single CC8 can be paired up with a second one at any point without risking a mismatch.

A single mic as a starting point for a stereo pair

A common budgeting problem: buying two mics upfront means a bigger initial outlay, even when a single unit is enough to start with for mono recording. Thanks to the CC8's strict factory calibration, there's no need to buy the pair at once — a single mic bought today will match a second CC8 purchased a year later just as well, removing the risk that comes with building a pair from a model with looser production tolerances.

Three pads and a switchable filter instead of one universal setting

Pencil mics used as drum overheads or on brass instruments can be overloaded by very loud sources, while quieter acoustic instruments need every last bit of dynamic range preserved. The CC8 addresses this with three pads (0, -10, -20 dB) and a switchable 60/120 Hz high-pass filter (2nd order), letting you set up close to a trumpet without risking overload, then switch to tracking delicate fingerstyle acoustic guitar moments later without losing detail.
