Sonicware SmplTrek – a portable production sampler with 30-voice polyphony, 48 kHz/16-bit sampling, maximum sample length of 180 minutes stereo (2 GB), 36 built-in effects, and 15 velocity-sensitive RGB pads, offering one-touch recording, auto-slicing, time-stretching, pitch-changing, and complete production workflow with 16 scenes containing 10 sequencer tracks and 3 audio tracks. The system combines sampler, sequencer, recorder, and mixer in a portable housing with built-in microphone, speaker, battery power (6× AA), and SD card for sample storage.

SmplTrek is a hybrid between sampler groovebox and digital portastudio, designed to capture inspiration anywhere and anytime. The workflow resembles a hardware version of Ableton Live Lite or Roland Zenbeats with track orientation on the side and scenes across the top. In full workflow, it functions more like a hybrid digital portastudio than a classic beat-making groovebox, combining live recording with clip launching, scene triggering, and playful sampling. The built-in microphone enables lightning-fast recording of ideas, while comprehensive connectivity allows recording from instruments, synthesizers, drum machines, computers via audio inputs, and smartphones directly via USB.

The system organizes projects into 16 scenes that can be arranged to create song structure (verses, drops, etc.). One scene contains 10 sequencer tracks plus 3 global audio tracks for longer recordings (vocals, guitar) played across all scenes. Sequencer tracks can be assigned to one of five types: Loop, One-Shots, Drum, Instrument, and MIDI, offering various types of audio playback or sequencing. Latest firmware updates increased the number of drum and instrument tracks to four of each type. Easy Sampling functions include one-touch recording, auto-slicing for quickly splitting samples across pads, time-stretching to match sample tempo to the song, and pitch-changing to keep samples in key.

SmplTrek V3 introduces Performance Mode for playing on the home screen with four hands-on parameters (filter, resonance/gain, effect send, level), Project Loop Playback, and mono, legato, transpose functions. The system offers EQ, 36 effects (previously 32) for mixing, USB audio streaming in full quality with one cable without driver installation for live streaming and direct DAW recording. Tempo synchronization with other devices via MIDI or audio sync. SmplTrek ships with over 500 high-quality samples and 100+ drum kits for immediate inspiration. Samples are stored on SD card (SDHC up to 32 GB), and Card Reader Mode allows downloading recordings and importing new samples from PC/Mac. Compact, lightweight design (550g) with battery power and AC adapter makes it an ideal companion for mobile musicians.
