Rupert Neve Designs 542 Tape Emulator – 500 Series module delivering analog tape saturation via "True Tape" circuit with magnetic record head and replay amplifier. Adds 3rd-order harmonics for warmth; soft-clip tames peaks, enhances 2nd-order harmonics. Silk/Texture circuit (Red for high/mid vibrancy, Blue for low-end thickness) provides variable transformer saturation. Blend control mixes dry/wet signals for precise tone.
15/30 IPS modes adjust frequency response (15 IPS: bass bump at 60Hz, HF roll-off; 30 IPS: flatter, bump at 120Hz). Trim (±12dB) sets pre-tape level; Saturation drives record head while compensating replay gain. Ideal for vocals, drums, mixes to offset digital harshness.
Single-slot format for modular racks; handcrafted for elusive analog tones.
