sE Electronics sE8 Supercardioid Capsule is a replacement supercardioid capsule for the sE8 condenser microphone. Instead of buying a second body you swap the capsule alone and move the microphone from wide pickup to tight when the session gets loud.
One head for several jobs
Polar pattern is the cheapest tool against bleed, yet it is rarely something you can change after the fact. With sE8 capsules you can change it in a minute without buying another microphone: the supercardioid capsule suits drums and percussion, acoustic guitar, orchestral and ensemble recordings and solo instruments. sE states the lowest noise and highest SPL capability in its class. A swap leaves the rest of the chain alone: the body, phantom power, preamp and cables stay as they are, and only what the microphone hears changes. It is worth carrying two capsules and choosing one for the source on the day.
Where to put the bleed source
A supercardioid pattern is least sensitive not directly behind but at about 125 degrees off axis, so that is the place for a stage monitor or a neighbouring drum. The hand-crafted, individually tuned capsule with an ultra-thin gold-sputtered diaphragm reproduces transients without a harsh front end or masking, and the precision electrode keeps the response linear. On drums, place the capsule close to the source, and on acoustic guitar the supercardioid pattern limits the room so the sound is more direct. You keep the whole setup and change only the head.
