Heritage Audio HERCHILD Next Gen Model 670N is a dual-channel, next-generation Vari-MU tube compressor designed as a faithful yet modernized recreation of the legendary Fairchild 670. At its core are 4 NOS 6BA6 military-grade tubes and 6 custom-designed transformers, which together recreate the classic "magic" saturation and glue the original was famous for. The "Next Gen" version retains this sonic signature while introducing key improvements for modern studios, such as significantly lower self-noise (-78 dBu) and a more accessible price point, all while maintaining hand-built production in Madrid.
Compared to the original, the Model 670N offers significantly greater flexibility. It features a new Output Gain Make-up stage based on the transformer-coupled HA-880 op-amp, allowing for clean signal boost without losing the character of tube compression. Modern features have also been added, such as an advanced Sidechain filter (to prevent low frequencies from triggering compression), independent Bypass for each channel, and M/S (LAT/VERT) operation modes. The DC Threshold (Progressive Knee) parameter has been brought to the front panel, enabling a smooth transition from hard limiting to transparent compression, offering unprecedented dynamic control.
