Native Instruments TRAKTOR KONTROL F1
Native Instruments TRA KTOR KONTROL F1 is a dedicated additional software controller specifically designed for use with TRAKTOR Remix Deck. TRAKTOR KONTROL F1 offers the best of all worlds: a level of control over Remix Decks, allowing you to quickly load, configure and customise Remix Sets. More importantly, TRAKTOR KONTROL F1 provides full performance control over Remix Decks, allowing you to create and modify remixes on the fly while playing your set. The TRAKTOR KON TROL F1 controller provides the basic controls required to control Stem Decks.
TRAKTOR KON TROL F1 can be used as a versatile MIDI controller to control any other MIDI-enabled application or device. This is possible thanks to the Controller Editor software, a small application that allows you to precisely define all MIDI assignments in the TRAKTOR KONTROL F1 controller while in MIDI mode. The Controller Editor should be installed during the TRAKTOR KONTROL F1 installation procedure. Although you can use TRAKTOR KONTROL F1 as a MIDI controller, it was designed mainly for one thing: controlling Remix Decks. That's why we call it a secondary controller, and assume that you are using another controller (such as the X1, S2 or S4) for other TRAKTOR software functions such as transport, scratch, FX setup and performance and so on. Remember that you can also control and scratch Remix Decks using timecode control with TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO 2.
Overview of TRAKTOR KONTROL F1:
The top panel of TRAKTOR KONTROL F1 consists of three main areas:
- Filter knobs and volume sliders in the sample slots: Four filter knobs and four volume sliders make up the upper part of the F1 top panel. The functions of these controls do not change in different controller modes! For example, even when changing the speed of a sample in Speed mode, you can still adjust the filter knobs and volume sliders in each slot
- Overview and modes: the central part of the TRAKTOR KONTROL F1 consists of overview and mode buttons along with a SHIFT button and a dual-function encoder knob (rotary and push button). The MODE buttons are dual-function. The function written on the surface of the buttons is the 'main' mode occurring when they are pressed, while the name of the 'auxiliary' mode. (when SHIFT is pressed simultaneously) appears just below the buttons. For example, the SIZE button (SPEED) will do the same thing when you press it: it activates the size mode. But if you press SHIFT at the same time, then you call up its secondary function, Speed mode. In this manual, the buttons refer to both functions. For example, the middle button on the second row of F1 is referred to as the TYPE (PITCH) button.
- Pads and mute (STOP) buttons: The largest part of the TRAKTOR CONTROL section of F1 contains sixteen pads and four mute (STOP) buttons below the pads. The primary function of the pads is to trigger different samples on the sample grid, while the Mute (STOP) buttons mute the sound of the associated sample slot (the sample is still played, but the sound is muted) or stop playback completely (when pressed together with SHIFT). In addition, the pads have a set of secondary functions that regulate the Sample Slot parameters.
