Moog Minimoog Model D – modern reincarnation of the legendary analog synthesizer from the 1970s, featuring a dedicated analog LFO, MIDI I/O, mixer overload modulation, and more. Originally released in 1970, the Minimoog Model D was the world’s first portable synthesizer and became the archetype for all keyboard instruments that followed. It combined the massive sound of Moog modular systems with the immediacy of a pre-wired interface, enabling musicians to create intuitively without patch cables. Revered by artists such as Herbie Hancock, Kraftwerk, Rick Wakeman, and Giorgio Moroder, the Model D helped define entire genres and sonic aesthetics.
Now produced again at the Moog factory in Asheville, North Carolina, the new Minimoog Model D remains true to the original analog signal path and component layout, while integrating key functional updates. This includes a dedicated LFO with triangle and square waveforms, MIDI input/output, and the classic feedback mod that allows the mixer section to be driven into rich saturation. For the first time, the Model D also features a spring-loaded pitch wheel with a dead zone for expressive performance control.
The all-analog architecture, three VCOs, legendary 24 dB/octave Moog ladder filter, and premium Fatar keybed with velocity and pressure CV outputs make this instrument a powerful and expressive tool for modern musicians. Its locally sourced cherry wood cabinet and hand-finished aluminum chassis preserve the build quality that made the original so iconic.
