Moog Messenger – new monosynth from Superbooth 2025

At Superbooth 2025, Moog Music unveiled their long-awaited new monosynth – the Messenger. This instrument blends Moog’s iconic analog sound with modern features such as a hybrid wavefolder, bass compensation at high resonance, and advanced modulation.

Wavefolding and hybrid oscillators

The Messenger features two VCOs with continuously variable waveshapes – from pulse, triangle, and saw, all the way to a unique “Batman”-inspired shape. This hybrid wavefolder builds on concepts from the Mavis and Labyrinth. The synth also includes a sub-oscillator, frequency modulation, and oscillator sync.

Next-gen ladder filter

The redesigned VCF is a standout: a multimode ladder circuit with bass compensation at high resonance. Filter modes include 4-pole and 2-pole low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass – plus the classic Moog response remains available.

Advanced modulation

The Messenger includes two loopable ADSR envelopes – one for the filter and one for volume – and two LFOs. One LFO offers full waveform selection and can modulate filter cutoff, pitch, waveshape, and the sub-oscillator. The second LFO is triangle-shaped and assigned to the mod wheel.

Sequencer and control

The synth comes with a 64-step sequencer/arpeggiator with various pattern modes, 256 presets, a full-size weighted keybed, six CV/Gate points, audio input, and both MIDI DIN and USB-C connectivity.
