With
theM, Waldorf catapults its perennial classic Microwave 1 into the modern era and thus to the pinnacle
of wavetable synthesisers . The 1989 original was inspired by the PPG Wave synthesisers of the time and was a real novelty as a compact rack unit with two digital oscillators and an analogue filter. The deep blue synth is equipped with up-to-date, powerful Hardware and can even read SysEx files from the over 30-year-old first Microwave. In the same chassis as the Kyra and Iridium, the M presents itself as very structured and organised. The most important functions are directly on the surface, everything else can be reached in a few steps via dedicated buttons and the large Display. Stepping on the control matrix is therefore a thing of the past. At the same time, the ''M'' looks to the future and the past and already has a well-deserved place in the present.
16 ''M'' voices has two wavetable oscillators, each drawing from its own pool of 96 w
avables. A further 32 user w avables can be integrated by the user. Hardsync is switchable between the tone generators, and the sound palette is greatly expanded by the ring modulator and noise generator. The carefully constructed and (if necessary) modulated sound spectrum leads to a 24dB analogue lowpass filter with the SSI 2144 chip, which is also known to many as the Curtis filter and which fulfilled its purpose already in the first Microwave. The end of the signal path is marked by an analogue stereo VCA with panning capability. Two ADSR envelopes are permanently assigned to the filter and the VCA. An extremely lush envelope has been prepared especially for the Wavetables modulation, which consists of eight time and eight level elements. The fourth envelope is freely assignable and offers eight elements for time and level. The modulation possibilities are rounded off by two BPM-synchronised LFOs, as well as various controllers such as the modulation wheel, Velocity and aftertouch, which can be freely assigned.
's
in one!Since the ''M'' is quadruple multitimbral, you can play four sounds on different MIDI channels polyphonically at the same time, depending on the available voices. The four aux outputs can be used via a stereo insert cable. For combinations with four sounds, there are 128 multiprograms added to 2048 memory locations for individual sounds. Similarly, each sound includes a programmable arpeggiator and chord mode.
M
16 Voice differs from the normal M only by doubling the voices from 8 to 16. This is particularly beneficial for Multimode so that depending on the sound (mono / legato / poly) and the voices used still have reserves without stealing the voice going.
