The 023, also known as the Bomblet, is a FET large-diaphragm condenser microphone built around the S23 capsule - a triple-backplate design based on the Soviet-era LOMO 19A21 and a reinterpretation of the classic AKG CK12 capsule. The aluminum body replaces a traditional shockmount with a mounting ring, which lowers production cost without cutting corners on hand assembly - the body, capsule, and toroidal transformer are all built in-house at the Soyuz factory in Tula.
Taming bright sources without losing detail
Bright-sounding sources - a vocal with hot sibilance, an overdriven electric guitar, drum cymbals - often need an aggressive top-end cut just to stop stabbing the ear in the mix. The S23 capsule in the 023 handles this differently: a forgiving top end rolls off harsh frequency peaks without sacrificing articulation or transient detail, so an engineer gets a warm, colorful take without having to sculpt it back with EQ afterward. A smooth midrange and a thick low end further balance bright sources instead of exaggerating them.
Authority on loud, low-frequency sources
A kick drum, bass amp, or overdriven electric guitar can lose definition in a dense mix if the mic doesn't have enough authority in the low end. The 023's proprietary toroidal transformer adds density and character right where a tight, full attack is needed, so the signal cuts through the arrangement instead of disappearing under other instruments. The included screw-in -20dB pad lets the mic sit close to loud sources without risking capsule overload.
