Kali Audio SM-8 — the flagship 3-way studio monitor in the Santa Monica series, an 8-inch woofer paired with a coaxial 4-inch midrange and 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter, 300 W of power and user-editable DSP.

The SM-8 carries over the coaxial driver geometry from the acclaimed IN series, keeping the same 280 Hz and 2.8 kHz crossover points, but doubles the amplification power compared to the IN-8. Three independent Class D channels drive the woofer, midrange, and tweeter separately, for 300 W total and a max SPL of 119 dB at 1 m — enough for midfield work from up to 5 m away. Frequency response reaches 37 Hz (-10 dB), with a 43 Hz - 21 kHz range at ±3 dB, and THD stays under 0.5% at 90 dB SPL.

Room calibration without an outboard processor

A working room is rarely acoustically neutral, and an external calibration processor adds latency and another link in the signal chain. The SM-8 handles this with onboard DSP in each speaker: 8 bands of parametric EQ, up to 10-12ms of delay, and level trim, all controlled through the Kali Control Panel app for Mac and Windows over Ethernet or USB-A. Because the processing runs on the same DSP chip already in the signal path, the correction adds no extra latency, and the settings never end up baked into a printed mix.

Flush mounting and immersive system integration

In a remote truck, a control booth, or a space-limited room, a speaker sometimes needs to sit flush against a wall, shifting its acoustic loading from full space to half space. The SM-8's recessed input panel and front-ported design support that kind of flush mounting, and the resulting change in acoustic loading can be compensated for directly in the Kali Control Panel. AES/EBU inputs over BNC and Ethernet networking let you link multiple speakers into a stereo, surround, or immersive system and switch between whole-system tuning profiles at the press of a button, instead of adjusting each monitor by hand.
