Joranalogue Generate 3 is a flexible and precise module for creating and full control over all signal parameters within a single 12 HP module. Any signal can be described through frequency, phase, amplitude, and timbre, and Generate 3 allows modulation of all these aspects through zero.
At the heart of the module is an exceptionally precise triangle wave voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). Linear frequency modulation through zero (FM) provides rich yet pitch-stable FM tones, allowing the oscillator to operate at "negative" frequencies.
The resulting triangle wave is then processed by a phase modulator with a 900° phase offset range. Phase modulation is an interesting alternative to FM, creating deep FM-like tones without changing the oscillation frequency.
The timbre of the signal is determined by its harmonic content. Generate 3 divides the full set of harmonics into three "channels": fundamental, even, and odd harmonics. By adjusting their relative amplitudes, a huge variety of waveforms can be created, including classic sine, sawtooth, and square waves.
Amplitude modulation through zero (ring modulation) for each channel can be applied to "split" harmonics at audio frequencies, enriching the spectrum.
In addition to conventional analog synthesis techniques, extensive modulation capabilities make Generate 3 an ideal instrument for exploring polyphonic synthesis, creating complex timbres from a monophonic source, akin to throat singing but in an electronic manner.
