Intech Studio Grid Series 3 VSN1 (screen left) is a third-generation modular USB MIDI controller from the Grid line, featuring a programmable LCD display, a high-precision jog wheel, and eight Gateron Hall effect switches. The GRID3-VSN1-L variant differs from the -R version solely in the screen position – placed on the left side of the panel – which affects ergonomics depending on the physical layout of your desk or live rig.
Screen on the Left – Ergonomics by Design
Positioning the 320 x 240 px display on the left side of the panel is a practical choice: when the VSN1 sits as part of a larger Grid module arrangement with additional controllers to its right, the screen stays fully visible and unobstructed. Four tactile buttons below the display handle page navigation or act as freely assignable shortcuts. The screen is fully programmable via the Lua API in Grid Editor – parameter values, custom widgets, bank names, and level indicators can all be shown directly on the unit, eliminating the need to glance back at a computer monitor.
Jog Wheel and Hall Effect Switches – Full Travel Control
The endless high-precision jog wheel handles DAW timeline scrubbing, precise synth parameter tuning, and navigation in video or generative software. Eight Gateron Hall effect switches with MX-style stems track the entire travel of each keypress – not just the actuation point – enabling pressure-to-CC, pressure-to-velocity, and other continuous MIDI mappings. The magnetic modular connector attaches to additional Grid modules in any direction, with the entire chain powered and managed over a single USB-C cable.
