Grace Design m108 Digilink is an option module (A108DL) adding Digilink connectivity to the Grace Design m108 eight-channel preamp with A/D conversion. The card enables direct connection of the preamp to Avid Pro Tools|HD Accel, HDX and HD Native systems, emulating the Avid HD I/O interface and bringing the transparent, transformerless m108 preamps straight into the Pro Tools environment.
Direct integration with Pro Tools HD
An engineer working on a Pro Tools|HD rig often has to pass the preamp signal through a separate Avid interface, adding conversion and configuration. The A108DL module eliminates that step: the m108 is seen by the system as an HD I/O interface and delivers eight channels of A/D conversion directly into the session. Pro Tools controls the sample rate of connected interfaces, so once Digilink mode is set the system sets the m108's internal clock, simplifying work with large sessions.
Linking two m108 units into one HD I/O interface
A session requiring a full input and output configuration needs more than just eight channels. The module has two Mini-Digilink connectors — Primary Port and Expansion port — working as on an Avid HD interface. Since the m108 has 8 inputs and 2 outputs, the two ports let you link two m108 units together, emulating one HD I/O in the standard configuration of an ADC card, DAC card and Digital I/O card. In the chain the first m108 must have an odd ID number, and a common word clock synchronises all interfaces.
