Burl Audio B80-BAES4 – a four-channel, bi-directional AES/EBU input and output card for the B80 Mothership chassis.
The card provides four AES/EBU input channels and four output channels on a single slot, giving eight I/O points without involving any analog-to-digital conversion - the signal stays digital from the input all the way to whichever motherboard is installed, whether that's the BMB1 DigiLink, BMB2 MADI, BMB3 Dante, or BMB4 SoundGrid. The card supports clock recovery from an incoming AES stream, letting the Mothership sync to an external digital source without extra word clock cabling. With a B80 chassis fully populated with ten BAES4 cards, up to 40 AES/EBU I/O channels are possible.
Recovering clock from an incoming AES stream
The AES IN clock recovery function lets the Mothership sync directly to the clock embedded in an incoming digital stream, without running a separate word clock cable between devices. That matters when integrating with external digital gear - a broadcast chain, an OB truck, or another studio - where physically wiring an extra reference clock is often impractical or impossible.A direct link to AES digital gear with no conversion
Because the card operates entirely in the digital domain, signal from external AES devices - effects processors, digital consoles, or another recording system - reaches the Mothership's routing directly, without an extra pass through an analog-to-digital converter, eliminating unnecessary latency and any potential quality loss from a double conversion.
