Bullfrog Drums is a drum machine developed by Erica Synths in collaboration with Richie Hawtin as an addition to the educational ecosystem of the Bullfrog synthesizer.
The Bullfrog synthesizer, created in collaboration between Erica Synths and Richie Hawtin, was conceived as an educational tool for people of all ages to learn about music technologies. It introduces users to the principles of sound physics, subtractive synthesis, and the basics of modular synthesizers.
Erica Synths decided to expand the Bullfrog ecosystem by adding another important component for electronic music - Bullfrog Drums. Paired with Bullfrog or Bullfrog XL, it creates a complete standalone kit for modern electronic music production and live performances.
The main focus of Bullfrog Drums is teaching drum programming and sampling basics. Its interface, inspired by classic drum machines, includes everything needed to create advanced rhythm patterns from drum samples. The synthesizer features seven sample-based voices with manual processing: pitch, start point, length, attack, decay, overdrive, and panning. The built-in easily programmable CV/Gate sequencer allows synchronizing Bullfrog Drums with the Bullfrog synthesizer.
