The MP1 is built around three distinct voicings in a single pair of headphones: a neutral stereo mode, a mono mode for phase-compatibility checks, and a Mixcube mode that replicates the frequency contour of Avantone's Mixcube nearfield monitors. Large 50mm drivers deliver an 18 Hz–25 kHz frequency response at 16 Ω impedance with a sensitivity of 113 dB SPL/1mW at 1 kHz, meaning they drive fine straight off an interface's headphone output without a separate amp.
Mixcube mode as a portable translation check
A familiar problem for anyone mixing in a small room or on the road: no access to a set of single-driver reference monitors like the Avantone Mixcube, which engineers have used for decades to check midrange translation. The Vari-Voice switch on the left earcup flips into Mixcube mode at any time, narrowing and emphasizing the midrange the same way the desktop Mixcube speakers do. That makes it possible to check vocal and lead-instrument clarity without routing the signal out to an external nearfield monitor.
Mono mode for phase compatibility
A lot of phase and stereo-width problems only show up once a mix is summed to mono — on portable playback devices, on the radio, or on cheaper mono speakers. The MP1's built-in mono mode lets you check that instantly, without summing channels in the DAW or patching extra routing on a console. Combined with the neutral stereo mode for general mix evaluation, the three modes give a complete monitoring toolkit in one headphone, useful in the studio as well as on stage or in a DJ setup.
