Austrian Audio OC18 Studio Set

The OC18 is a single-diaphragm version of the flagship CKR12 capsule found in the OC818, built with Open Acoustic technology to minimize internal housing resonance. A 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency range, 13 mV/Pa sensitivity, and a maximum SPL of 148 dB (158 dB with the pad engaged) give enough headroom for both delicate vocal work and loud instrumental sources. The Studio Set includes the OCS8 shockmount, the OCH8 mic clip, the OCW8 foam windscreen, and a protective carrying case — a complete kit ready to use straight out of the box.

Level control without losing signal clarity

A common problem when recording loud sources like a guitar amp or toms with a well-regarded condenser: overloading the capsule at high SPL. The OC18 addresses this with a two-stage -10/-20 dB pad that reduces signal level ahead of the capsule rather than after it, preserving the natural tonal character even close to loud sources. Combined with three high-pass filter settings (40/80/160 Hz), the mic handles both a quiet vocal and an overdriven guitar combo without repositioning or reaching for an external pad.

A complete shockmount included, not an afterthought

Buying a mic without a proper shockmount usually means floor and stand vibrations get transmitted straight to the capsule, which is a real problem for vocal recording in a room without full acoustic isolation. The Studio Set includes the OCS8 spider shockmount, designed specifically for this microphone series, removing the guesswork of testing generic mount compatibility with the OC18's body, plus a foam windscreen to reduce plosives on close-miked recordings.
