Elektron Releases Highly Anticipated Software Update for Elektron Digitakt II. The new OS 1.03 introduces a key enhancement: full compatibility with Overbridge 2.13. For Elektron Digitakt II users who have been waiting for this feature, this marks a major step forward. Now, multichannel audio over USB is possible—something that has become essential for devices without individual audio outputs.
Overbridge—Finally!
Support for Overbridge is the only addition in this update, but it’s undoubtedly the most significant. In the previous model, the lack of multichannel output via USB was one of the biggest drawbacks, but now, thanks to Overbridge, the Elektron Digitakt II can be fully integrated with a computer, vastly expanding its capabilities in professional studios.
What’s New in the Digitakt II?
The Elektron Digitakt II isn't just about the software update—it’s also a hardware revolution in the Digi series. The main changes relate to memory and the flexibility of the audio/MIDI tracks.
More Memory: The new Elektron Digitakt II offers 400 MB of sample memory (compared to 64 MB in the previous version) and 20 GB of internal storage. This positions it alongside devices like the MPC.
16 Flexible Tracks: Instead of the previous 8 audio and MIDI tracks, we now have 16, which can be assigned to stereo or mono samples, or to control MIDI equipment. This level of flexibility provides greater possibilities when integrating with various studio setups.
New FLTR Machines: The Elektron Digitakt II offers five new filter machines: Multi-Mode, Lowpass 4, Equalizer, Comb, and Legacy LP/HP, allowing for more advanced sound manipulation.
Interface and Functional Improvements
Although the overall look of the Elektron Digitakt II resembles its predecessor, a lot has changed under the hood. New buttons—"FX" and "Keyboard"—have been added, along with new effects such as chorus and a master-level compressor. The number of steps in sequences has been increased to 128, opening up more arrangement possibilities.
Is It Worth It?
The Elektron Digitakt II seems to be the answer to the needs of many users who wanted more memory, stereo support, and a more flexible audio/MIDI track system. It's not only a tool for percussionists but also for those who need a comprehensive device for sampling and managing MIDI equipment in the studio.
