Wunder Audio Allotrope EQ
The Allotrope EQ is a single-channel inductor-based Baxandall equalizer in 500 Series format, built on the same EQ circuit as the Wunder Audio PEQ2. The name is a direct reference: in 1971, Led Zeppelin bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones commissioned a one-of-a-kind custom console called the Allotrope. That console became the founding reference point for the entire Wunder Audio line — from the PEQ1 through the PEQ2 and into the Wunderbar. The Allotrope EQ carries the PEQ2's correction section into the 500 Series format without simplification — metalwork, components, and transformers all meet the same build standard as the console modules.
Inductor-Based Baxandall in 500 Series Format
Inductor-based Baxandall architecture produces smooth, wide correction curves — no hard bandwidth limits and none of the phase artifacts associated with active RC filters. That curve shape is particularly useful for broad tonal moves: adding low end sounds like a natural thickening of the band, and opening up the top does not introduce harshness or artificial sheen. The transformers are wound from the same Ni/Fe/Co laminations used in the original 1971 Allotrope modules — the same laminations that informed the PEQ1 and subsequently the PEQ2. The signal path is discrete Class-A throughout, built to the same level of craftsmanship as the full-size console modules: precise wiring, impeccable soldering, and top-tier components at every junction in the circuit.
PEQ2 Correction Circuit in a 500 Series Slot
The Allotrope EQ answers a specific question: how to access the PEQ2's EQ character in a 500 Series slot with no quality compromises. Every aspect of the design — from the metalwork to the component selection — mirrors the PEQ2 standard, realized in a smaller enclosure. For engineers who know the PEQ2's sound from tracking sessions or from working on Wunderbar consoles, the Allotrope delivers the same musical inductor-based correction in a 500 Series rack environment — as a standalone EQ without a preamp stage, ready to run in an insert chain or on a DAW return.
