Wes Audio NG76 is a mono, fully analog FET compressor in 1176 style, in ng500 format (1-slot 500-series module) with full VST/AU, USB, and MIDI digital integration — the single module from the NG76 Stereo Pair set, available as a standalone unit. The FET 1176 architecture, "All Buttons In" mode, transformer-balanced input and output, and digital recall with physical potentiometer movement are identical to those in the pair. As a standalone 1-slot module, the NG76 operates as a mono channel compressor or as a starting point for later expansion into a stereo pair with stereo link by adding a second module. No M/S matrix and no switchable input transformer (unlike the ng500 _MIMAS). Stepper motors move physical potentiometers in response to DAW automation.
FET 1176 with digital recall in a single slot
The field-effect transistor as the gain-control element delivers attack speeds of 20 µs – 800 µs — hard peak control on drums, guitars, and vocals without click artifacts. Ratio: 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, 20:1, and the "All Buttons In" mode: pressing all ratio buttons simultaneously creates an aggressive compression character with low-end boost and a shortened attack transient — the classic UREI 1176LN configuration. Attack: 20 µs – 800 µs; Release: 50 ms – 1.1 s + Auto. Input (threshold) and Output (makeup gain) controls. VU meter with a switchable indication mode (output / GR). Transformer-balanced input and output — FET 1176 harmonic coloration with a subtle upper-midrange lift under compression. The key advantage of the NG76 over the analog-only Beta76 (500-series format, no digital integration): stepper motors move physical Input, Output, Attack, and Release potentiometers in response to DAW automation; 16-bit-per-parameter recall. The "All Buttons In" mode is accessible through the DAW plug-in. The module occupies 1 slot in a 500-series rack — denser packing than the _MIMAS (2 slots).
Single module vs stereo pair
As a standalone 1-slot module, the NG76 operates as a mono FET compressor with full DAW recall — ideal on instrumental and vocal channels or as an insert on a mono group bus. Adding a second NG76 module in the same 500-series rack creates a stereo pair with stereo link — equivalent to the NG76 Stereo Pair. A pair of NG76 modules occupies 2 slots total and is factory-matched and calibrated when ordered as the Stereo Pair bundle; when purchasing two individual NG76 modules, stereo calibration is the user's responsibility or requires contact with Wes Audio. The ng500 format (1-slot 500-series module) allows installation in any API-compatible 500-series rack. The NG76 is one of the ng500 line modules from Wes Audio, alongside the Beta76 (500-series, no digital integration), _MIMAS (2-slot, with M/S and switchable transformer), NGBusComp, NGLeveler, and others.
