Wes Audio _TITAN is a stereo, fully analog reference-class mastering dynamics processor — Wes Audio's flagship unit, combining three independent processing sections in a single 3U device: a tube optical compressor (Opto), an FET compressor, and a per-channel sidechain equalizer. Each of the three sections can operate independently or in any series combination. _TITAN offers full DAW integration via VST/AU plug-ins with physical recall and parameter automation (stepper motors move physical potentiometers in real time), with zero digital processing in the signal path. A built-in M/S matrix, switchable input transformer, and external sidechain input complete the architecture of a mastering-grade tool ready for the main bus or a dedicated mastering chain.
Three sections — Opto, FET, and Sidechain EQ
The Opto section is a tube optical compressor using a photocell as the detection element — a characteristic, smooth, program-dependent time response with a natural release behavior that cannot be accurately replicated algorithmically. The FET section is a transistor compressor with fast transient response and precise attack and release control, ideal for harder, more measurable compression with tighter timing. The Sidechain EQ shapes the signal driving the detection circuit independently of the output signal: a high-pass filter eliminates bass pumping during mix master compression, and a mid-band shift allows selective reaction to presence frequencies or drums. The three sections can be arranged in any series order — Opto before FET, FET before Opto, with or without the Sidechain EQ at any point in the chain. The tubes in the Opto section require a warm-up period; passive or forced cooling maintains thermal stability through long mastering sessions. 16-bit-per-parameter automation with physical potentiometer movement guarantees identical recall between sessions without quality compromise.
DAW integration, M/S, and input transformer
The _TITAN VST/AU plug-ins enable real-time control from the DAW — every parameter change in the plug-in causes a physical potentiometer movement in the hardware. Preset recall saved to the DAW is accurate to 16-bit per parameter, meaning identical physical settings at every session recall. The built-in M/S matrix with encoder and decoder allows independent compression of the Mid and Side channels — a critical mastering tool, as over-compression of the center or sides is among the most common issues on the stereo bus. The switchable input transformer (Transformerless / Transformer-Coupled) provides a choice of input character: the transformer adds subtle harmonic saturation and analog coloration; transformerless mode delivers a neutral, clean input. External sidechain input per channel. Analog VU meters per channel with a switchable indication mode. 3U desktop format (Starlight) with an internal power supply; equivalent sections are also available as individual 500-series modules.
