The 017 FET is a solid-state, large-diaphragm condenser microphone built around an interchangeable S17 capsule based on the Neumann K67 design - a dual-backplate 34mm head with a gold-sputtered diaphragm. Unlike the tube-powered 017 TUBE, the FET version runs on standard 48V phantom power alone, with no separate supply or multi-pin cable, and all wiring is done point-to-point.
Faster transient attack without losing tube-style depth
On fast-articulating vocals or transient-rich acoustic sources - acoustic guitar, piano, strings - a tube circuit can slightly soften the attack. The 017 FET addresses this with a faster, more precise solid-state signal path, while keeping the density and warmth the 017 series is known for through the same S17 capsule and proprietary toroidal transformer. Engineers get a tighter attack without giving up the characteristic Soyuz color.
A simpler signal path without a tonal compromise
An external power supply and multi-pin cable on tube microphones is one more thing to carry, connect, and potentially troubleshoot mid-session. The 017 FET removes that step - standard 48V phantom power lets you plug straight into any interface, console, or preamp without extra cabling. An included -20dB pad and an optional omnidirectional capsule add flexibility without adding another box to the signal chain.
