Kurzweil K2088 is the flagship 88-key synthesizer workstation of the K20 series, built around an expanded Dynamic V.A.S.T. (Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology) engine — the same modular synthesis architecture that defined the K2000 in 1991, now with 32 layers per program, 256-voice polyphony and 4 GB of FlashPlay memory with zero loading time. The Fatar TP/40L fully weighted hammer-action keyboard with velocity, aftertouch and adjustable sensitivity places the K2088 at the intersection of a stage performance keyboard and a deep sound design workstation, housed in an aluminum and steel enclosure built to professional touring standards.
Dynamic V.A.S.T., FM, VA and KB3 — four synthesis engines, one instrument
The core of the K2088 is Dynamic V.A.S.T. with user-programmable DSP routing and customizable algorithms — each of the 32 program layers passes through a modifiable DSP chain featuring new oscillators, multi-pole filters and FX modules. Cascade Mode routes one layer's output through the DSP processor of any other layer, up to 32 consecutive layers deep, enabling processing complexity unavailable in conventional layered architectures. The 6-operator FM engine loads original FM SysEx files and integrates directly with V.A.S.T. layers, going considerably beyond classic DX-style synthesis. VA1 virtual analog oscillators with anti-aliasing deliver authentic analog emulations. KB3 ToneReal handles 9 drawbars, rotary speed, chorus/vibrato, brake and percussion — all accessible from the front panel without entering a menu.
4 GB FlashPlay, 2,042 programs, full K2000-to-K2700 backwards compatibility
The 2 GB factory library delivers 2,042 programs and 587 Multis centred on resculpted synth sounds from the K2000, K2500 and K2600, extended by selections from the K2700, Forte, PC4, PC3 and SP6. An additional 2 GB of non-volatile user flash supports .WAV and .AIF files up to 16-bit/96 kHz alongside all native Kurzweil formats (.K27, .FOR, .PC4, .P3K, .KRZ, .K25, .K26), meaning the entire Kurzweil library from K2000 to K2700 loads natively with no conversion. The 16-track sequencer runs at 960 PPQ resolution with both event- and track-based editing tools. Sixteen arpeggiators, 16 MIDI CC Step Sequencers and 16 RIFF generators each operate independently per Multi zone. The built-in USB audio interface lets you record directly into any DAW without additional hardware.
