Kali Audio LP-UNFR

Kali Audio LP-UNFR — a pair of ultra-nearfield 4.5-inch studio monitors in a Mojave Red finish, with a 1-inch tweeter, built for listening from as close as 0.8 m, with USB-C, Bluetooth, TRS, and RCA inputs.

The LP-UNFR is a color variant of the LP-UNF — same electronics and acoustics, different cabinet finish. Both units are bi-amped, 40 W for the HF section and 40 W for LF/MR each, for 160 W total, linked by an 8-foot interconnect cable. Frequency response spans 39 Hz - 25 kHz (-10 dB), narrowing to 54 Hz - 21 kHz within ±3 dB, with a max SPL of 103 dB and THD under 2% from 65-1000 Hz and under 1% from 1000-2000 Hz. The tweeter and 3D waveguide come straight from the LP-6 line, which is unusual at this cabinet size.

Full-range monitoring on a tight desk

A standard nearfield pair needs a listening distance of roughly 1-1.5 m for the stereo image to lock in properly — often impossible on a small desk. The LP-UNFR treats the desk itself as an acoustic element of the system, so stereo imaging and element placement stay legible even at arm's length. A front-firing port shaped using fluid dynamics principles lets you place the monitors near a wall without boomy low-end buildup.

A bold color without giving up the specs

In a room with several monitor pairs, or a setup that shows up on camera, black is often the default, unremarkable choice. The Mojave Red finish sets a pair apart visually without touching the acoustic parameters of the base model — the same high-excursion 4.5-inch woofer, the same tweeter and waveguide. USB-C and Bluetooth 5.1 inputs also let you connect directly from a phone or tablet without an audio interface in between, and Boundary EQ via DIP switches tunes the low-frequency response for the specific placement on a desk, on stands, or near a wall.
