Intech Studio Grid Series 3 EN16 Detent is a third-generation modular USB MIDI controller from the Grid line, built around 16 metal endless encoders with push switches arranged in a 4x4 grid. The GRID3-EN16-D variant uses stepped encoders – 20 clicks per full rotation – aimed at users who need precise, incremental parameter control without relying on visual feedback to track position.
16 Detent Encoders – Precision Through Touch
20 clicks per revolution means every step is unambiguously felt under the finger: you can count parameter increments, set a filter at exact points, or navigate hardware menus without looking up at a screen. Each encoder independently handles rotation, push, and the push+rotate combination – three separate actions per control, each assignable across four pages in Grid Editor. With 16 encoders and four pages of assignments, a single 107 x 107 mm module gives access to up to 192 independent actions.
RGB Feedback and Modular Expansion
Each encoder has an individual RGB LED configurable in Grid Editor – colours can mark channel groups, operating modes, or active pages, which is especially useful in dark stage environments. Magnetic side connectors with gold-plated pins allow connection to other Grid modules in any direction, with up to eight units running off a single USB-C cable. The injection-moulded base with a robust front panel holds up to daily studio use and live performance conditions alike.
