Designed by Chris Muth, MONITOR-ST fits everything a control room needs into a single 1U chassis: four analog inputs, three speaker outputs, an assignable subwoofer output, and a complete communication system for talking to the recording room. The whole unit is run from an elegant remote connected over one shielded Cat-5 cable, so no switch requires leaving the sweet spot.
Level calibration across mismatched sources
Programmable level offsets — four steps of 1.5dB on the inputs and four steps of 3dB on the outputs — let you match a -10dBV consumer source like a CD player against +4dBu professional gear without guessing by ear. The subwoofer output can be assigned to any of the three speaker pairs, with its own programmable level offset and a choice of filtering: full bandwidth for surround work, or bottom-octave-only for stereo listening. Mute and solo work across any combination of speakers, speeding up comparisons between monitor sets during a session.
Cue system and communication with the room
A built-in talkback mic with level control and an external mic jack, a slate output, and a remote talkback jack cover communication with the tracking room — talkback mode can be set to "producer's" (with automatic -20dB speaker dim) or "conductor's" without dimming. The headphone amplifier can draw from the Main Mix or the Aux input, making it possible to build a separate cue mix for a vocalist independent of what's playing on the main monitors. The Aux input can be layered on top of any of the four main inputs, so a click track, a computer audio preview, or an alert tone reaches the system without extra patching. The system expands to 5.1, 7.1, 10.2, or ATMOS through MONITOR-SR modules — without replacing the core unit or losing any configuration already set up.
