Burl Audio B16-BAES4 — a 4-channel AES/EBU card for the B16 Mothership chassis, adding bidirectional AES3 digital I/O plus clock recovery from an incoming stream, independent of the main interfacing motherboard.
The card provides two stereo XLR AES inputs and two stereo XLR AES outputs, giving four channels in each direction on a single slot. It can run alongside any BMB1, BMB2, BMB3 or BMB4 motherboard, carrying an AES stream independently of the session's main digital format.
Extra AES I/O without a separate box
Connecting an outboard processor, console, or other AES3-based system usually calls for a separate digital interface alongside the main DAW connection. The BAES4 addresses this by adding four AES channels directly to a slot in the B16 chassis, alongside the main DigiLink, MADI, Dante or SoundGrid motherboard. That brings signal from an external AES device into the same Mothership system, with no extra box in the rack.
Syncing to an external AES source
Linking several digital devices together makes clock mismatches, and the clicks or sync errors that come with them, an easy mistake to make. The BAES4 addresses this by recovering clock directly from the incoming AES stream and letting the user choose the timing source from the motherboard, AES IN 1/2, or AES IN 3/4. In a B16 chassis, the card fits one of two available slots, giving up to eight AES channels with both slots fully loaded.
