The R84 and R84A measure approximately 203 × 68 mm and weigh under one kilogram — compact by large-ribbon ribbon mic standards, but still requiring dedicated transport protection. The 1.8-µm aluminium Big Ribbon (59.7 × 4.7 mm) is freely suspended in the magnetic field and susceptible to damage from air blasts, ferromagnetic particles, and mechanical shock. The R84 Series Cordura Case provides a higher protection level than the standard foam container shipped with the microphone: a rigid plastic shell under the abrasion-resistant Cordura outer layer absorbs external impact, thick internal foam immobilises the microphone, and the sealed closure cuts off airflow and tramp iron access to the ribbon during transport and storage.

The Cordura Case is the solution for engineers who carry the R84 or R84A between sessions regularly — to film sets, location recordings, and touring situations where the case is opened and closed multiple times a day. Cordura fabric resists abrasion and tearing at a level unavailable in foam alone; the plastic shell protects the microphone even when the case ends up under other gear in a car boot or equipment bag; and the carry-on format allows the R84 to travel as cabin luggage without checked-bag risk. R84 and R84A Compatibility
The case is designed for both variants of the R84 series: the passive R84 with a standard XLR output and the active R84A with a captive Accusound cable.
