The ST-48 is a true mixing powerhouse, offering 48 full input channels. With its three-input-per-channel summing architecture, users have access to an unimaginable 144 signals simultaneously during mixdown (plus effects returns). Each channel is equipped with a reference RefPre preamp and FREQ equalizer (500 Series format), providing a total of 96 top-tier modules installed in the console. This configuration makes the ST-48 a self-sufficient system capable of handling the most complex orchestral or film scoring sessions.

Despite its massive size, the console retains the flexibility and intuitive workflow of the ST series. The famous "Tone Cards" allow for changing the sonic character of the summing buses from pristine modern to saturated vintage (e.g., British or American CAPI style). The Grand Master function enables summing 6 stereo buses to the main output, creating a powerful, multi-dimensional mix. A version with full "Flying Faders" automation is also available.
