SSL Big SiX is an enlarged version of the well-known SSL SiX, equipped not only with more channels but also with additional features. Particularly noteworthy compared to the SiX is the integrated USB audio interface with 16 input and output channels, making the Big SiX predestined as a complete studio frontend for project studios and demanding home studio applications. The console offers 4 channel strips with the popular SSL Super Analogue preamps and direct routing to two stereo aux tracks. For sound shaping, the console features fixed 3-band EQs with switchable treble and bass filters, a high-pass filter and a one-knob compressor. Simple operation and musical circuit design make these functions ideal for pre-processing directly during recording.

Designed for demanding hybrid configurationsThe basic

concept of the Big SiX, as with the SiX, is to provide

the

most versatile monitor section possible, so a monitor controller is used in addition to the interface and converters. In addition to the main output, the Big SiX allows switching between 2 pairs of monitor speakers, as well as monitoring via 2 separate headphone tracks. In addition, adjustable (!) dimming and mono functions can be used. For overdubs, 2 or 4 tracks from the DAW can be switched via additional external inputs. For purists and analogue lovers, the Big SiX can also be switched to inline, channel-by-channel operation, e.g. to embellish tracks from a D AW via

an

aux track using a hardware device or to use the desk as

a

summing unit or for mixing stems.

Analogue icing on the cakeIn addition to

high-end channel functions, the Big SiX is also equipped with simplified versions of two of SSL's best-known effects: G-Series Bus Com pressor and Listen Mic Compressor. Compared to the big version, the Bus Compressor does not have direct access to the ratio and time functions, but has an Auto Release function, which is preferred in the vast majority of cases anyway. The SSL LMC was originally designed for talkback channels, but has been used for drum rooms and snare drums since the 1980s. In the Big SiX, it is switched to a versatile, routable talkback channel at the touch of a button and controlled by the Talk Level knob.
