Sonicware LIVEN Mega Synthesis

Sonicware LIVEN Mega Synthesis is a retro synthesizer for creating music in the style of 16-bit video games of the 80s with an FM module, PSG module, PCM module, a 6-track sequencer, a 27-key keyboard, and a built-in speaker.

LIVEN Mega Synthesis recreates the legendary sound chip YM2612 from Sega's first 16-bit game console. The synthesizer accurately emulates a 4-operator FM sound module, an 8-bit PCM module, and the SN76489 PSG sound module of the original console.

The FM module features 8 algorithms and allows for editing operator ratios, something that was not possible in the original. The PSG module synthesizes basic waves and white noise to recreate iconic game sounds. The 8-bit PCM module emulates Z80-controlled PCM playback.

The Legacy mode allows for accurately reproducing the characteristic "roughness" of the YM2612 sound, with separate filter frequency characteristic adjustments and emulation of a 9-bit DAC for FM tracks. PCM tracks can be played back in 4-bit mode.

The synthesizer features a 6-track sequencer (3 FM, 2 PSG, 1 PCM) with intuitive operation. It includes functions for recording movements of each knob, sound switching within a track, and melody input on the 27-key keyboard. Ten effects can be applied, including reverb and phrase repeats.

The synthesizer includes presets (sounds, patterns) from the renowned composer Yuzo Koshiro, known for creating music for games like Ys, Streets of Rage, and Etrian Odyssey. It also offers 320 FM sounds from games in 20 categories and 64 drum kits for the PCM track.

The portable LIVEN Mega Synthesis operates on batteries or an adapter, and has a built-in speaker. It supports MIDI input/output and firmware updates. Its compact size and intuitive design make it an excellent choice for creating an authentic retro game sound atmosphere.
