Rhodes Stage 61 — an electromechanical tine piano in a tour-ready format

The Stage 61 features the same mechanism, the same tines, and the same pickups as the flagship MK8 — only in a shorter scale, a lighter cabinet, and without the need for external power. For pianists who cannot imagine replacing a real Rhodes with a softsynth.

Overview

The Rhodes Stage 61 doesn't try to be everything at once. Passive electronics, one volume potentiometer, one tone knob — and a jack output. No menus, no drivers, no chargers.

Under the hood, however, there are no compromises: a spruce keyboard by Kluge Klaviaturen GmbH (Steinway Group), tines and hammer tips taken straight from the MK8, and a new sustain pedal with a cable system instead of a rod. The result is an instrument weighing 26 kg that will fit where a 73-key model simply won't go.

The Stage 61 requires no power supply: just plug a cable into the jack and connect to an amplifier, DI box, or audio interface. The passive circuit with volume and tone control sounds exactly like the original Stage models from the 70s — no additional coloration, no digital conversion artifacts.

  • Tolex cabinet + ABS lid — wooden body covered in Tolex with ABS corners. Classic Stage aesthetics, built to withstand touring conditions.

The Stage 61 operates in a passive circuit — the alnico pickups generate a signal directly from the tine vibrations, and the volume and tone controls modify it analogically without active amplification. The result: zero background noise, zero ground loops, and zero digital conversion artifacts.

On stage, this means no additional points of failure — no power supply to forget, no batteries to replace, and no drivers to update. In the studio: a clean signal sent straight to a preamp, compressor, or interface, without the coloration of an active circuit. A passive Rhodes sounds exactly as it should — and adds nothing more.
