PMC 6-2 — 3-way active reference monitor

Main monitor sound, nearfield footprint. The PMC 6-2 is a 3-way active near-and-midfield monitor designed for control rooms where every mix decision must be confident, fast, and final.

Overview

Most nearfields lose tonal balance at higher listening levels or compress dynamics in the low end. The PMC 6-2 works differently: two 6" woofers driven by separate 400W Class-D amplifiers, ATL™ bass loading, and precise DSP crossovers maintain sound consistency regardless of volume — from low-level monitoring to 109dB of continuous SPL.

The 6-2 is the middle model in the PMC Studio series, sitting between the two-way PMC6 and the larger PMC8-2. It proves itself in mixing, mastering, post-production, and immersive audio sessions in rooms from 15 to 40m², where full-range accuracy is a strict requirement, not an option.

Key Features

  • ATL™ (Advanced Transmission Line) — a 2-meter transmission line inside the cabinet delivers controlled and deep bass down to 33Hz (-3dB), without the resonances typical of bass-reflex ports.

  • Laminair™ — hexagonal vents reduce air turbulence and cabinet coloration, improving dynamic efficiency and sound clarity.

  • PMC55 driver with N-compass waveguidewide and stable dispersion, an ultra-stable soundstage without artificially sweetening the image.

  • Four independent Class-D amplifiers (4 × 400W) — each woofer has its own 400W, MF and HF have 400W each. A total of 1600W per speaker, with no shared headroom.

  • SoundAlign™ DSP — browser-based configuration software: 5-band PEQ, boundary compensation, high-pass filter 20–200Hz, delay 0–30ms, 3 user presets.

  • AES3 Digital I/O16/24-bit, 18–192kHz digital input, AES3 output for daisy-chaining, 2.4ms latency.

Expandability with the XBD system

The PMC 6-2 can be expanded with dedicated PMC XBD bass modules, creating a full-range monitoring system with massive headroom and dynamics.

Adding XBD modules significantly extends low-frequency reproduction and increases maximum SPL, allowing the system to function as main monitoring in large control rooms.

Thanks to the shared architecture and cohesive design philosophy, the integration remains perfectly aligned in terms of phase, dynamics, and tonal characteristics.
