Neumann M 150 Tube is a high-end small-diaphragm tube condenser microphone that continues the legacy of the legendary Neumann M 50 — a microphone long regarded as the reference standard for orchestral and film score recordings. With its unique titanium capsule design and advanced transformerless tube circuitry, the M 150 delivers an unmatched combination of clarity, realism, and transient precision.
Like its iconic predecessor, the M 150 uses a 12 mm pressure capsule flush-mounted in a 40 mm sphere. This distinctive design creates a truly omnidirectional pattern that gradually becomes more directional at higher frequencies, providing the perfect spatial balance for orchestral recordings. The ultra-thin diaphragm and backplate, both made of titanium, ensure maximum rigidity and responsiveness, resulting in astonishingly fast transient reproduction and accuracy across the frequency spectrum.
The capsule signal is amplified by a carefully selected subminiature triode tube for classic warmth, while the transformerless output stage maintains ultra-low distortion and an extended low-frequency response. Despite its tube architecture, the M 150 achieves an impressively low self-noise of only 15 dB-A and supports long cable runs up to 300 meters without loss of detail. The microphone also features a –10 dB pad and a switchable 40 Hz low-cut filter to adapt to various recording environments.
The Neumann M 150 Tube is designed primarily for DECCA Tree and surround orchestral recording techniques, capturing the full depth and spatial realism of large ensembles. Its combination of precision, openness, and warmth makes it equally suited for chamber music, film scoring, and any application demanding the utmost fidelity and presence.
