Neumann KH 120 II
Neumann KH 120 II is an active nearfield studio monitor with a 5.25-inch woofer, 1-inch tweeter, automatic room correction feature (requires optional MA 1 system), DSP-controlled electronics, and automatic power-saving mode.
The KH 120 II is based on the same concept as its predecessor but completely redesigned to improve performance: deeper bass, higher sound pressure levels, and enhanced resolution. The KH 120 II is intended for nearfield use with a recommended listening distance of 1-2 meters. Therefore, it is suitable for small spaces such as home and project studios, as well as for mixing and editing or as a surround sound satellite in larger multi-channel studios.
The KH 120 II has an exceptionally linear frequency response across its entire frequency range from 44 Hz to 21 kHz. Furthermore, it also aligns the phase response. This means clean mid frequencies, as well as exceptional accuracy in the time domain: precise impulse reproduction and clear reverberation resolution. This was made possible by DSP-controlled electronics, allowing for the use of complex crossovers while avoiding phase distortions caused by analog filters. The internal DSP also implements new standards of tonal consistency.
Even the best monitor sounds only as good as the acoustic environment allows. The Mathematically Modeled Dispersion (MMD) waveguide ensures a wide sweet spot and minimizes reflections from the desk. The powerful built-in DSP provides adaptive room correction using the proprietary MA 1 Automatic Alignment system (optional). Even in acoustically treated rooms, this leads to significant improvements.
Engineers paid a lot of attention to developing an amplifier that combines excellent sound quality with Class D energy efficiency. Although the power amplifiers of the KH 120 II deliver up to 145 watts to the 5.25-inch low-frequency woofer and 100 watts to the 1-inch tweeter, they consume only 17 watts in standby mode. The automatic standby mode further reduces power consumption to 0.3 watts.
