Mackie HR824 MK2 is a two-way active studio monitor with an 8.75" low-frequency driver and a 1" titanium dome tweeter, bi-amplified by the Twin FR Series system: 150 W for the woofer and 100 W for the tweeter. A free-field frequency response of ±1.5 dB from 37 Hz to 20 kHz and THX pm3 certification place the HR824 MK2 in the segment of monitors built for critical mixing and mastering work in both stereo and multichannel configurations. Zero Edge Baffle and waveguide — diffraction eliminated at the source
The front baffle is a single-piece aluminum casting with precisely curved edges (Zero Edge Baffle), eliminating the wave diffraction that occurs at sharp MDF corners and generates delayed energy that blurs stereo imaging. The integrated exponential aluminum waveguide controls tweeter dispersion without off-axis SPL loss, maintaining a wide and consistent sweet spot while keeping the on-axis response linear. The active Linkwitz-Riley crossover at 24 dB/octave with a 1,900 Hz crossover point maintains phase coherence between the drivers. Three Acoustic Space Control positions — Full Space (flat), Half Space (-2 dB shelf at 50 Hz) and Quarter Space (-4 dB shelf at 50 Hz) — compensate for boundary reinforcement from walls and corners without external EQ.
Three inputs, LF and HF trim, multi-stage protection
The rear panel provides two balanced inputs (XLR and 1/4" TRS) and one unbalanced RCA, allowing simultaneous connection of an audio interface and a consumer source. Maximum input level is +20 dBu. The three-position LF filter switch sets the high-pass cutoff at 37 Hz (normal), 47 Hz or 80 Hz — the last position prepares the monitor for integration with a subwoofer in a satellite/sub configuration. The HF shelving EQ at ±2 dB at 10 kHz corrects for room brightness or darkness without affecting the midrange. The protection system includes independent LF and HF overload detection, automatic thermal shutdown and a 5-second output mute on power-up.
