Klotz DX10 is a passive DI-box made in Germany and the successor to the D10KL model. Its core component is a hand-wound transformer built in-house at KLOTZ AIS, using a 100% mu-metal core — a soft nickel-iron alloy with exceptional magnetic permeability — with a 6+6:1 winding ratio and a mu-metal shield for improved RF isolation. The stainless steel enclosure with laser-engraved labelling measures 103 x 75 x 49 mm. No external power supply or phantom power is required. The DX10 carries a 5-year warranty and passes a 6-stage quality inspection per ISO 9001:2015.
In-house mu-metal transformer — tonal neutrality as the design objective
The transformer is the defining component in any passive DI-box, exerting the greatest influence on signal fidelity and sonic character. KLOTZ developed the DX10 transformer entirely in-house, selecting mu-metal for its outstanding magnetic permeability — a property that minimises harmonic distortion to below 0.1% and delivers a flat frequency response of 10 Hz to 30 kHz (±0.3 dB). The mu-metal shield surrounding the transformer core provides effective isolation from RF interference generated by stage lighting, wireless systems, and other electronics in the live environment. The impedance conversion circuit transforms the high-impedance unbalanced output of a guitar, bass, or keyboard into a low-impedance balanced signal ready for long XLR cable runs without signal degradation.
Stainless steel enclosure and passive design — reliability without dependencies
The double U-profile 2 mm stainless steel enclosure with a hard-wearing finish and laser-engraved labelling withstands the mechanical demands of stage use without deformation or legibility loss. The instrument input and thru jack at 6.35 mm allow the DX10 to be inserted between a guitar and amplifier without interrupting the signal path to the instrument. The 20 dB pad switch raises the maximum input level to +30 dBu at 40 kΩ, handling high-output sources such as amplifier line outputs and active preamps. The ground-lift switch decouples XLR pin 1 from the output ground through an R-C network, eliminating ground loops without affecting the audio signal path.
