ASM (Ashun Sound Machines) presents an eight-voice digital keyboard synt

hesiser

with wave morphing synthesis. The huge variety of functions combined with a top-notch sound is testament to the development team's many years of experience. The specially developed 'Polytouch Keybed' is a 49-key keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch that can be played with touch dynamics. The pitch and modulation wheels have also been ergonomically redesigned. The user interface has been redesigned to minimise menu work (paging), and functions are now just a keystroke away. Eight encoders with an LED ring and a large OLED display provide adequate access to all parameters and an optimal overview.

The

ASM Hydrasynth is equipped with two banks of sounds with 128 sounds each - five banks are available for a total of 640 sounds.

A small highlight is the five analogue outputs for CV, Gate, Clock and two definable controllers, making this synth the control centre of your connected modular system! To make the synth itself the beneficiary of control voltages, two CV inputs sampled up to the high audio range are used. Gate out and 'maths' in, attributing this to a cut in the modulation matrix-there are no limits to creativity.

Creating soundThree

full-fledged oscillators draw their basic material from 219 waveforms. Oscillators 1 and 2 are also scanning on the main waveform, allowing up to eight waveforms to be crossed or smoothed. The oscillators can be further shaped using four 'mutants'-in addition to FM, three different types of pulse width modulation (PWM), hard-sync and harmonic sweep, there is also Wavestack. With the latter, assertive unison/supersaw sounds can be created using just one oscillator.

The

repertoire is rounded off with a noise generator and a ring modulator.

FilterWith

two different filters, which can operate in parallel or in series, nothing stands in the way of detailed sound shaping in ASM Hydrasynth. The first filter includes eleven different filter models (including 12/24 dB lowpass, highpass, vocal). The second is a variable state filter, operates with a 12 dB slope and can be passed continuously from lowpass through bandpass to highpass (similar to the SEM filter).

EffectsAs the

last link in the signal chain, there are four effects blocks that give the sound its final effect. The first and last effect blocks contain the same selection of chorus, flanger, rotor, phaser, Lo-Fi, Tremolo, EQ and compressor (with sidechain). In between, delay and reverb can be activated (five and six changes, respectively).

Modulation and controllerWhat

would an oscillator and filter device be without modulation! Five looped DAHDSR envelopes and five synchronised LFOs with several waveforms and trigger modes, including a sixth vibrato LFO, provide plenty of movement in the sound. In addition to some fixed modulation connections, almost every parameter can be modulated in the Hydrasynth via the modulation matrix, which has 32 slots.

Absolutely matching the performance and guaranteeing even more fun with the instrument is the 67-centimetre ribbon controller, which can not only be used to modulate other parameters, but also offers a completely different and also new way of entering notes in theremin mode.
